Seattle Dining Guide: A Local’s Favorite Spots
As a Seattle native and lover of the city, I’m thrilled to share some of my favorite places to eat when I’m home. Whether you’re craving seafood, soul food, or just a great cup of coffee, these spots offer a taste of what makes Seattle’s food scene so special. NOTE… These aren’t in any order! I’m hitting ALLL of these spots in one trip, for the most part!

Duke’s Seafood
Location: Multiple locations (Alki Beach, Lake Union, Green Lake, etc.)
Why I Love It:
Duke’s is a Seattle classic, known for its sustainable seafood and beautiful waterfront views. Whether you’re in the mood for clam chowder, wild-caught salmon, or crab cakes, Duke’s delivers with freshness and flavor. The casual yet refined atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal by the water.
Must-Try: The clam chowder and the “Wild Alaska Salmon with Sweet Pepper & Corn Risotto.”

Communion Restaurant and Bar [Black-Owned]
Location: 2350 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122
Why I Love It:
Communion is a fusion of soul food and Pacific Northwest cuisine, celebrating the rich culinary traditions of the African American community in Seattle. Chef Kristi Brown’s innovative menu offers dishes that are both comforting and creative. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit.
Must-Try: Black-eyed pea hummus, shrimp and grits, and the fried catfish sandwich.

5 Point Cafe
Location: 415 Cedar St, Seattle, WA 98119
Why I Love It:
This 24-hour dive bar and diner has been serving Seattle since 1929. The 5 Point Cafe is known for its hearty, no-frills comfort food and strong drinks. It’s the kind of place where you can get breakfast at any hour, with a side of Seattle’s quirky charm.
Must-Try: The “Chicken Fried Steak” and a classic breakfast of eggs, bacon, and hash browns. My mom loves the meatloaf plate. I ALWAYS get the Philly Cheese Steak. They are open late!

The Comfort Zone Restaurant [Black-Owned]
Location: 2605 S Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98144
Why I Love It:
The Comfort Zone is a hidden gem in Seattle’s Central District, offering delicious Southern-style soul food. From fried chicken to collard greens, every dish is made with love and authentic flavor. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a meal that feels like home.
Must-Try: The fried chicken, mac and cheese, and cornbread. I always add a side of fried shrimp!

Dick’s Drive-In
Location: Multiple locations (Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Wallingford, etc.)
Why I Love It:
Dick’s Drive-In is a Seattle institution, serving up classic burgers, fries, and milkshakes since 1954. It’s the go-to spot for a quick, tasty, and affordable meal. There’s something nostalgic about enjoying a Dick’s Deluxe burger with a side of fries and a chocolate shake.
Must-Try: The “Dick’s Deluxe” burger, fries, and a milkshake. Strawberry is my favorite! Go to Capital Hill for the experience or Queen Anne if you’re in a hurry!

Top Pot Doughnuts
Location: Multiple locations (Downtown, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, etc.)
Why I Love It:
Top Pot Doughnuts is the place to go for hand-forged doughnuts and excellent coffee. The vintage-style decor and cozy ambiance make it a great spot to start your morning or take a break during the day. Their doughnuts are deliciously fresh and come in a variety of flavors.
Must-Try: The maple bar and the classic old-fashioned doughnut. Obama visited the downtown location during his first campaign. They have a cool picture. Great spot to take a break!

Portage Bay Cafe (South Lake Union)
Location: 391 Terry Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109
Why I Love It:
Portage Bay Cafe is known for its commitment to local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. The breakfast and brunch menu is extensive, featuring everything from pancakes and French toast to scrambles and omelets. The build-your-own toppings bar is a highlight!
Must-Try: The “Banana Pancakes” and a trip to the toppings bar. I love the french toast bar!

Patty’s Eggnest
Location: Multiple locations (Greenwood, Mill Creek, Everett, etc.)
Why I Love It:
Patty’s Eggnest is a beloved breakfast and brunch spot with a homey atmosphere. The portions are generous, and the menu offers a wide variety of breakfast classics. It’s the perfect place for a hearty start to your day in Seattle.
Must-Try: The “Chicken Fried Steak” and their signature omelets.
